Our therapeutic space, The Well, is a yurt nestled in a private woodland on a social farm in Bangor.
It is a space intentionally designed to support regulation and the therapeutic process.
The yurt is a hand-built, circular structure, designed to support comfort, containment, and engagement. Circular spaces are perceived by the brain as safe and harmonious, enhancing regulation and focus. Inside, the yurt is warm, inviting, and eco-friendly, powered by solar energy and heated with wood grown sustainably on the land. This approach reflects a reciprocal relationship with the land: as we benefit from its restorative, regulating qualities, we also give back through careful, gentle stewardship. Every detail of the space, from the materials to the layout, has been chosen to nurture wellbeing.
From an occupational therapy perspective, the yurt and the surrounding environment embody principles of polyvagal theory and neuroscience, providing environmental signals of safety that allow clients to engage more fully in therapy leading to better outcomes. The forest and yurt act as therapeutic co-facilitators, creating a context supportive of connection- to self, and therapist.
This space also runs as a yoga studio (the-well.net) with all profits being reinvested into Evolve OT to support wellbeing and flourishing in our community.
A Space Supporting Many Forms of Therapeutic Intervention
The yurt and surrounding land offer an incredibly versatile and nurturing setting for a wide range of therapeutic approaches. Depending on the client, their goals and interests, sessions may include:
– Yoga and somatic practices
– Breathwork and meditation
– Trauma-informed and talking therapies
– Nature-based and eco-sensory therapy
– Lifestyle redesign and self-regulation strategies
– Social farming and meaningful land-based activity
Some sessions take place in the yurt, while other sessions unfold outdoors, some sessions have both. Each session is tailored to the individual, drawing from the full range of occupational therapy practices offered by Evolve OT.
