“Occupation refers to anything we do that “occupies” our time. Our daily occupations give meaning and purpose to our life and have a direct influence on our health and wellbeing.” Rhiannon Crispe
Occupational therapists are the “do-ers” of the health world. They are dual trained in mental and physical health and honour the connection between them. They are guided by the knowledge that there is great power in activity, in “doing”- it can heal, give meaning and can be the reason for some of the most awe inspiring moments in life. Occupation is medicine.
Occupational Therapy addresses health and wellbeing through a client centred, holistic and activity focused lens. Many of us spend an abundance of time in our heads. Oftentimes to promote healing, we need to “get out of our heads, and into our bodies.” The medium through which OT’s can achieve this, is meaningful activity.
An occupational therapist will help clients break down barriers that have been holding them back from achieving their fullest potential in areas of their life that are important to them. They offer practical, strategic, forward thinking, solution focused support. They work collaboratively to foster hope, motivation, empowerment and change. They will consider clients unique values, interests and strengths to develop interventions to help them reach their goals.
At Evolve OT we are aware of the complex and powerful connections between body, mind, emotion, activity, environment, and spirit. There is an alchemy that can emerge when these elements of an individual are connected and aligned. This is what we strive to achieve so individuals experience lasting, positive change in multiple areas of their life.
• Clients are considered through a client centred and trauma informed lens. Cultivation of a strong therapeutic relationship between client and therapist is of prime importance.
• Interventions are bespoke, scientifically supported and agreed upon in partnership. They will be informed by the client’s goals, interests, strengths and areas of dissatisfaction.
• Multiple aspects of the human are addressed and considered. We assess and investigate all areas of a clients life as we believe they are inextricably linked. Interventions therefore address the mind and the body.
• Transformation can occur when we build meaningful activities into our lives, find meaning in the everyday and feel connected to the people and environment around us. We help clients achieve this through supporting engagement and fostering connection.
• We use engagement in meaningful activities, lifestyle optimisation strategies, embodiment practices, psychoeducation and a range of scientifically supported techniques to craft integrated interventions based on unique client needs.
• We want our clients not to need us anymore! Our aim is to empower clients and equip them the tools, skills, confidence and knowledge they need to become experts in their own wellbeing.
